PAINTING THE WORLD
Two perspectives
19 October – 3 November 2026

Reflecting on four shared decades of art historical expertise and friendship, De Jonckheere invites Michael Altman Fine Art & Advisory Services to present Painting the World, Two Perspectives. This inaugural exhibition of De Jonckheere’s new space at 65 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, will take place during Art Basel week.
Following their meeting in New York in 1986, Georges and François De Jonckheere and Michael Altman cultivated a professional and personal relationship that brings together two specializations. De Jonckheere specialized in the study and sale of Flemish painting dating from the 15th to the 17th century, while Michael Altman’s discerning eye and deep engagement with the industry have positioned him as an authority on both 19th century and Post-War American art. They nevertheless immediately recognized in each other a genuine love of craft and a complementary approach to business in their respective firms.
De Jonckheere and Altman have collaborated in the past, bringing to international art fairs with challenging selections of Old Masters alongside American artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. Their distinct areas of expertise have fostered a decades-long exchange of ideas: while each painting remains firmly rooted in its own period and tradition, their combination reveals unexpected connections across art history.
In the spirit of this privileged connection, Painting the World highlights the aspects of Flemish painting and Abstract Expressionism. Each artist, whether it be Pieter Brueghel the Younger, or Jean–Michel Basquiat are true prodigies of their times. Flemish painters such as Herri met de Bles or Abel Grimmer depict reality and the landscape to create an illusion for the viewer, whilst Abstract Expressionists such as Franck Stella seek to convey a sensation of them.
This inaugural exhibition invites collectors to consider two perspectives. De Jonckheere and Michael Altman’s offers a fitting celebration of their longstanding collaboration, writing a newchapter in the De Jonckheere new Parisian space’s history.
