We woke up with this notification on iPhone and got to the realisation that it has been already a year since our great exhibition « rencontre des maîtres » at La Commanderie de @Peyrassol!

On this day last year we had the visit of Michelangelo Pistoletto that hold himself a solo show with the @galeriacontinua on the premise.

As we are going strong at @Tefaf this is a fantastic reminder of the excitement and passion that lead us doing what we do and love: art!

Only a few days left to discover our selection at @tefaf!

We are exhibiting more than 40 works from the 16th and 17th centuries. The paintings that we took to Maastricht are wonderful and various: portraits and landscapes by various members of the Brueghel circle, glorious floral still-lifes by the likes of Jan van Kessel and Osias Beert the Elder; narrative paintings on Biblical or classical themes – among them a plummeting Icarus and apostle Paul, unhorsed on the Damascus road.

Among our selection there is a 16th-century German-school painting of an open book – so finely wrought that you could almost call it photo-realistic. Every handwritten word is there to be read, alongside illuminations and illustrations that include a scrap of music on a stave. And we have a captivating group portrait of the Madonna and Christ-child with St Elizabeth and the infant John the Baptist – enjoying each other’s company in a sage-green landscape.

These and all the other works are well worth seeing: we hope to see you there!

On view at @tefaf!

This recently discovered small tondo completes the body of work of the Antwerp painter Abel Grimmer. Depicting the month of May, this painting was most certainly part of an incomplete series representing the 12 months of the year, of which seven paintings are known and have been identified. Series of months and seasons became very popular in Flemish art in the second half of the 16th century.

This delightful scene clearly takes place on a warm and pleasant afternoon in late spring. The composition is organised around the winding line formed by the river, thrusting the viewer's gaze into this rural landscape. The round format of the painting emphasises the idea of nature's cycle and cyclical renewal.

Discover at @tefaf this beautiful painting by David Teniers the Younger.

David Teniers the Younger was one of the most important Flemish genre painters of the 17th century. Drawing undeniably became the basis of his work and his activity was marked by an inexhaustible interest in observing and depicting the peasants who populated the countryside and led a simple life far removed from the pomp of aristocratic circles.

In this village fair, the festivities take place in an outdoor space delimited by high wooden fences and an inn in front of which the villagers are seated. Without ever condemning, Teniers ironizes the morals and leaves his viewer facing a play: it is sometimes complex to dissociate the real from the fable.

@TEFAF Maastricht is getting closer! Discover a glimpse of our selection, this impressive painting by Hans Bol. His artistic production is characterised by numerous drawings, engravings and gouache paintings.

He quickly specialised in small-format works using gouache, watercolour and, more rarely, oil paint. This Panoramic Landscape with Port Town, Samson fighting the Lion in the foreground stands out in this painter's corpus as an exceptional work of great rarity owing to its large format, the quality of execution and the use of oil paint.

The sinuous shapes of the trees, rivers and mountains lead the eye across the entire panorama. This manner of composing the landscape became typical of the painter as of 1570. Karel van Mander confirmed this in his day, highlighting the great quality of the painter's imagination, who relied on his collection of motifs as an inexhaustible resource to support his creativity.

Last week to visit our exhibition “Last Night I

Last week to visit our exhibition “Last Night I had a Dream“ at the gallery in the Old Town, Geneva! The exhibition is ending on February 28th.

We present this extraordinary series created by Niki de Saint Phalle in 1968, composed of 18 sculptures that form a whole.

A true testament piece - of Niki and her imagery. Indeed, each painted piece is a character or a symbol drawn from the artist’s own dream life. There are hearts and helping hands, a sun and a snake, several voluptuous female figures, a couple lying stiffly side by side in bed. They are like psychological archetypes, or like the symbols on a personal, handmade set of Tarot cards (Niki was fascinated by the Tarot). We know what some of these dream-figures signified for Niki de Saint Phalle: they crop up in illustrated letters that she wrote to friends, where the drawings are annotated like photographs in a catalogue.
