March 13 to 20
MECC MAASTRICHT

Our carefully selected paintings this spring highlight our research and the specific features of each one.

Separated by the market, the three tondi by Pieter Brueghel are exceptionally reunited. Together the three seasons form a rare ensemble.

The Triptych of the Passion of Christ also forms a uncommon ensemble as its three subject were rarely combined in such a triptych. They reflect the desire to convey passion through a style of painting capable of closely reflecting reality.

Well-documented and long-researched, the Interior of the Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp is a new discovery. This masterpiece by Sebastiaen Vrancx invites us into a religious ceremony in 17th-century Antwerp.

A step aside from our Flemish specialty, our View of Venice from Francesco Guardi’s mature period is among the few that present the church on the right. Offering us an increasingly illusory space, a silvery yet warm light, and an increasingly synthetic, vibrant and rapid touch, this painting is filled with the artist’s genius.
